New Music: Big Sean Opens Up on Mental Health and Love Issues on “Overtime”

The Return of the Don is never late but right on time

Detroit’s very own, Big Sean has returned to the music game with the single “Overtime”. The track boasts production work from Grammy award winning producer Hit-Boy, KeY Wane and TheTuckerBrothers.

This single is not only public service announcement to put the game on alert but also marks the path to his fifth solo studio album.

Over Big Sean has been relatively open about his emotional & mental health struggles and also laments on how his struggles provided him some much needed growth while also making an obscure reference to his breakup with songstress Jhene Aiko. On the record, he expresses this on the following bars:

Shit, I didn’t take a break, my nigga, I broke

Broke my heart, broke my soul, don’t cry for me though

If you don’t break nothing down then it’s no room to grow

One mental block lead to another, shit its dominos…

The track is a classic Big Sean track with witty (some might say that the word, I’m actually looking for is “corny’) wordplay, somewhat relatable lyrics and a beat that will have you bobbing your head. If you are a Sean fan, you’re probably going to vibe with it and if you aren’t, you probably will find yourself skipping it, when you come across it, on your playlist.

But don’t take my word for it, give the track a listen for yourself:
